Soft Wash Roof Cleaning
Sometimes, customers refer to the roof cleaning services we provide as “roof power washing,” but the technical name for the service is soft washing. Power washing shouldn’t be used on roofs, as it can cause damage. Instead, we use gentle pressure roof washing to get the best results.
Caution: high-pressure washing should not be used on roofs!
Rolling Suds uses low-pressure equipment and specialized cleaning agents that are approved by ARMA to eliminate algae, mildew stains, streaks, and dirt from shingles – all without damaging your roof.
Please take note from some of the pictures: when your roof is cleaned, it may temporarily turn the stains, streaks, dirt, and green algae into a white color. This means that the problem spot on your roof has been killed and is in the process of deteriorating from your roof. After a few days of natural weather such as wind, rain, and sunlight, you will notice that the newly treated white spot disappears. This will leave you with the finished product, that clean roof you wanted!
The ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association) has recommended a process to clean asphalt roofing materials. Using this technique ensures that your warranty is not voided by improper cleaning chemicals and high pressure.
Roofing isn’t the only surface where we apply soft washing techniques. To learn more, visit our soft washing page.
Is Mold Killing Your Roof?!
Roof discoloration is caused by a species of algae called Gloeocapsa Magma – sometimes called Black Algae or Roof Algae. This type of algae is contained in and transported through the air and tends to collect and grow upon roofing structures. This growth on your roof looks dirty and will reduce the life of your shingles.
As the fungus breaks down the asphalt shingle, the ceramic granules protecting the surface of the shingle are loosened. Once they begin to fall off it causes the roof to deteriorate and will diminish its ability to reflect heat. If not treated, the roof algae will reduce the life of your roof and increase your home cooling expenses.

Roof Cleaning FAQ
How often should building exteriors be cleaned?
All buildings are different, but typically surfaces stay clean for years. However, trees and shrubs in shaded areas will increase the growth of mold and mildew.
Is it safe to clean asphalt shingles? Are you supposed to wash your roof?
Yes! In fact, this is an often overlooked level of maintenance for a home and is even recommended by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, and specifically in this technical bulletin.
How much pressure do your machines have?
We can get pressures up to 4,000 PSI. Most of our jobs we use less than 1,000 PSI.
